It is no doubt that the burgers had been refined ever since then, yet retaining the aspects that are hard not to love about them. KEK Keng Eng Kee Pandan Gardens had done this with their Wok Hei Burgers back then, and we were indeed glad to see KEK Keng Eng Kee Seafood bring it back as part of new concept and extension to their branding under the Wok In Burger branding.

It also showcases how versatile local flavours can be, to be incorporated into western cooking techniques or dishes and providing a new take to consumers at a wallet-friendly price point. It is always interesting to see how establishments like KEK Keng Eng Kee Seafood come up with locally-inspired fusion dishes that actually work for the typical layman pretty much of an encouragement to other establishments which are constantly looking to jump on the mod-Sin bandwagon looking to recreate local dishes that involves a modern take without being overly abstract. Coming with the same condiments of that as mentioned with the Pai Gu Wang Burger, it is no doubt that the Coffee Pork Burger is something that we just simply cannot get enough of so flavourful, so fragrant and so much of a hit on its own - a flavour bomb that we would crave for again and again. Drawing inspiration from Coffee Pork Ribs and using the very same recipe of that used at KEK Keng Eng Kee Seafood, the Coffee Pork Burger features that familiar thick, sweet and sticky sauce that carries a slight hint of honey and coffee aroma drenched atop a pork patty - the same exact reason that makes their coffee pork ribs taste so good. Having tried the Coffee Pork Burger previously at KEK Keng Eng Kee Pandan Gardens, it was hard for us to not give the Coffee Pork Burger yet another go at Wok In Burger. Overall, a pretty delicious burger at a great price point which is comparable to that of fast food joints. Fries were crisp on the exterior, while fluffy in the interior well-seasoned with salt while the coleslaw also provided a refreshing crunch without being too particularly milky, with bits of fruit included for more texture. The patty comes drenched with the Pai Gu Wang Sauce a tomato-based sauce that is both tangy and sweet - pretty appealing and flavourful while the pickles cut through the meatiness and provide a refreshing crunch. The portion size was generous coming with a patty which is sized slightly larger than the crisp, buttered and toasted buns that sandwich the other condiments such as pickled vegetables and lettuce, the Pai Gu Wang patty comes tender and easy to chew. All burger orders come in a set here, which comes inclusive of fries, coleslaw, and Water Chestnut drink we opted for the Lime Fizz (add on of $1) for both orders. Having noticed how the burgers are the items that are taking the spotlight here, we went for the Pai Gu Wang Burger a burger that draws inspiration from the tzechar favourite of Pai Gu Wang, otherwise known as Pork Ribs King. A buzzer would be distributed with the payment made, and the buzzer would ring to inform the patron to self-collect their food orders from the counter once ready pretty much self-service in nature.

While KEK Keng Eng Kee Seafood patrons would enjoy full table service once they are seated at their table, Wok In Burger patrons would have to first queue up at KEK Keng Eng Kee Seafood’s reception to be assigned to a table before ordering at Wok In Burger’s counter. The menu also features rice set items great for those having an individual meal whilst also offering a number of variants of fries as sides. Previously known as the “Wok Hei Burgers” back when they had first launched the burgers at KEK Keng Eng Kee Pandan Gardens, Wok In Burgers places an emphasis on their burger offerings this time offering a similar menu whilst naming them the “Kungfu Burgers”, whilst also offering pasta dishes similar to that which were featured under the Modern Cze Char (“Mod C”) section of the menu at KEK Keng Eng Kee Pandan Gardens. Occupying a previously empty space at where Keng Eng Kee Seafood is located at Alexandra, Wok In Burger can be said to be the spiritual successor to Modern Cze Char - an iteration of tzechar which Keng Eng Kee Pandan Gardens places an emphasis on. There seems to be a void to be filled in ever since KEK Keng Eng Kee Pandan Gardens had vacated out of its premises in 2018, especially considering the lack of tzechar inspired burgers in town.
